Class Description
Great leadership doesn’t happen only in meetings or from the front of the room. It happens one conversation at a time.
How do you get people to open up when something is wrong? How do you listen in a way that makes people feel heard and valued? And how do you address a difficult issue, hold someone accountable, and still preserve the relationship?
In this practical, interactive session, participants will learn communication skills they can immediately use in their councils, workplaces, families, and everyday lives. Through discussion and a realistic Knights of Columbus scenario, participants will learn how to:
Build trust and rapport through everyday conversations
- Ask better questions and listen to understand—not simply to respond
- Avoid common communication mistakes such as assumptions and jumping too quickly to solutions
- Have difficult conversations without creating unnecessary defensiveness
- Understand the real reason behind a problem before trying to solve it
- Help others recognize how their actions affect the people around them
- Work together to develop solutions and gain genuine commitment to change
- Hold people accountable while still demonstrating respect and Caring
Grounded in the principles of Competence, Character, and Caring, this session goes beyond simply learning how to communicate. It teaches leaders how to connect, build trust, strengthen brotherhood, and turn difficult conversations into opportunities to lead.
Because the most important conversation a leader has may not be the speech he gives to 50 men—it may be the conversation he has with one man who needs to know that he matters.
