State Deputy Message – Happy Independence Day!
Happy Independence Day!
As we celebrate the 4th of July with our families’ watching parades, fireworks displays, and other community events let us take time to remember the gift of freedom that we are all blessed with.
This year we will celebrate the 248th anniversary of American independence. This day does not only represent the creation of a new nation, but the creation of a new civilization, one founded on the principles of freedom, self-government, and equality. Here are just a few quotes to inspire new vigor for our founding principles. Looking at who and what we were will help us remember who and what we ought to be.
Harry S. Truman
“America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.”
Abraham Lincoln
“Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth”.
John F. Kennedy
“Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.”
President Ronald Reagan
“We’re blessed with the opportunity to stand for something, for liberty and fairness. And these are things worth fighting for, worth devoting our lives to.”
“If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under”.
Douglas MacArthur
“Duty, honor, country. Those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be.”
So, my brothers and Sir Knights, indeed, as we reflect on these inspiring 4th of July quotes about Freedom and Liberty, we should remind ourselves of the gift of freedom that we are all blessed with each and every day.
As we celebrate this fourth of July let us take pride in displaying our patriotic spirit by saying the pledge of allegiance, singing the national anthem, working at election polls and promoting voter registration, and placing flags on the graves of veterans on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
Our country needs more patriots like YOU to defend the flag of freedom, the United States of America and support our veterans. If you are not already a Sir Knight, I encourage you and others to join the Fourth Degree by taking the Patriotic Exemplification Celebration that will be held in Manassas hosted by Bishop J. Louis Flaherty Assembly #1678 on Saturday September 28, 2024. Take the next step by joining the Fourth Degree, our fourth principle of our order “Patriotism”.
In closing, I wish you and your families a blessed, safe, and happy Independence Day.
May God Bless the Knights of Columbus and the United States of America.
Vivat Jesus!
