My Brother Knights of Virginia,
Welcome to the start of a new fraternal year. Our theme for this Fraternal Year is “Keep the Faith!”
As we Catholics are called to continual conversion in our Catholic Faith, our Christian beliefs and life, and our support and commitment to our Holy Father, our Bishops and Priests. So too, this fraternal year will be a year of Conversion for the Virginia State Council.
Remember that The Venerable Fr. McGivney’s vision was to:
- Change a man’s life
- Deepen and enrich his faith
- Strengthen and Protect His Family
- Build better lives for those who so desperately need help
Fr. McGivney was just 25 years old when he was ordained a priest. He founded the Order at 29-30 years old. He was a young man. Likewise, brothers, we must continue to recruit younger men and more diverse members to grow our order and provide them with the opportunities to live Fr. McGivney’s dream.
Take the first step and talk to your prospects about our new Faith in Action Programs that speak to and relate directly to our young people. Commit to making family and spiritual Programs a Priority in your Councils. Doing so will maximize YOUR Council’s visibility locally in the parish and in the community. The Question to ask a man is not “will you join the Knights of Columbus?” The question we must ask is “why are you not a Knight of Columbus?”
Live the Venerable Fr. McGivney’s vision in your everyday life. Make it a part of your fiber. Never lose hope in Christ and the belief in yourself that you can accomplish whatever you set your mind, heart and soul to do.
Make a difference in someone’s life. For when you do, their life will be changed and so will yours!
Keep the Faith.
Edward R. Polich
My Brother Knights, families and friends,
It gives me great pleasure to invite each of you to the home of Catholicity in the United States. This year the Supreme Convention will be held in Baltimore, Maryland. Please come and experience the charm our city has to offer.
This site presents the tours and entertainment that our committee has planned for you. Please take time to get to know Baltimore. Plan to see our sights and experience our rich history. We have so much to offer. Baltimore is where Father McGivney studied for and was ordained to the priesthood. Our tours will show you the site of both of those experiences.
We hope that you can come early and/or stay late. We want you to feel welcome in our city and in our state. We hope to see you in August.
Stephen M. Cohen, State Deputy 2016-2018
Maryland State Council, Knights of Columbus
Approximately 1,600 Knights attended last year’s convention in St. Louis, when they pledged $2 million to restore a Christian town in Iraq that was destroyed by the Islamic State.
The Father Michael J. McGivney Guild serves as a source for information about the life, works and spirituality of Father McGivney. The Guild distributes informational materials about him, receives reports of favors granted through his intercession and oversees the distribution of relics. Guild members receive regular updates on the progress of Father McGivney’s cause for canonization and are invited to participate in promoting devotion to this Servant of God. Members of the Knights of Columbus are not automatically Guild members and must elect to join the Guild. The Father Michael J. McGivney Guild Newsletter is published bimonthly except July- August, and is sent free to Guild members. To join the Guild, Click Here!
