Northern Virginia Knights turn out in force

to support Special Olympics softball games

July 20, 2013 -  Members of the Knights of Columbus took part in the annual Golden Helmet Softball Games at Franklin Park in Purcellville, sponsored by Special Olympics of Virginia, Loudoun County.


For the fifth straight year Good Samaritan Council 6175 took the lead in coordinating all District 18 Councils in providing a hamburger and hotdog picnic lunch for all athletes and parents participating in and observing the games.


The umpire for the games was Sir Knight Michael Purcell of Blessed Louis Martin Council 15256 supported by his wife Peggy and his son Sir Knight Casey Purcell.


All together, a total of 49 Knights and 26 family members and friends of all ages and representing all six District 18 Councils participated in support of Special Olympics.  Each Council provided a share of the lunch menu and all the workers and guests agreed it was a wonderful event.


During the lunch Jeff Erikson of Loudoun County Special Olympics presented a plaque to Steve Rogers District Deputy #18 and Everett Barnes, Grand Knight of Good Samaritan Council recognizing the continued support of the Knights of Columbus for Special Olympics and this event over the years.


Participating Councils were Good Samaritan, Holy Family Council 6831, St. Francis Council 11136, Our Lady of Hope Council 12791, Corpus Christi Council 13468 and Blessed Louis Martin Council 15256.
