This guy will go to almost any lengths to raise money for Virginia Special Olympics
October 17, 2014 - Virginia Past State Deputy Kelly Mortensen is the go-to guy when it comes to raising money for Virginia Special Olympics. He's been participating - and getting other Knights to participate - in the annual Polar Plunge, where participants get donors to sponsor their wintertime venture into the frigid January/February waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
So it was no surprise when Kelly signed up for "Over the Edge," a Special Olympics fundraiser in which participants rappel down the side of the 25 story SunTrust Center in downtown Richmond. The photos at left document Kelly's 400 foot journey from the precipice on the building's roof to kissing the sidewalk below when he arrived safely on the ground.
Mortensen raised $2,300, and thanks all of the councils and individuals who have contributed so far, and is quick to point out that others can still join in by sponsoring his effort and adding their contributions. Contact Kelly at his state executive director's e-mail
