Pre-Org Meeting

The Virginia Pre-Organizational Meeting 2010-2011 was held on June 26 at Holy Cross Academy in Fredericksburg.  Over 200 Knights of Columbus were in attendance, including the State Officers of the Virginia State Council, Past State Deputies, newly-elected Grand Knights, and newly-appointed and reappointed District Deputies.  The Meeting provided an opportunity for detailed training for these Grand Knights and District Deputies as they assume their duties in the new fraternal year, especially with respect to membership recruitment and program activities.  Grand Knights were given specific training in their roles as Council leaders.  State officers took the opportunity to explain the nature and responsibilities of their respective offices.

State Deputy-Elect (now State Deputy) Bill McCarthy used the occasion to outline the plans and goals of the State Council for the fraternal year.  First and foremost, the principal objective of the State Council will be to increase the Order.  In this regard, the State Deputy established a recruitment goal of 1,700 new Knights.  He informed attendees that all State programs would be integrated to enable each Council to know what others were doing, and that effective training for Council leaders and others would continue to be a priority.  Development of a new communications program for the State Council was also announced.

Significant among new programs is the establishment of a Knights of Columbus Rosary Program.  Noting that life, family and marriage are absolutely sacrosanct, the State Deputy called upon the Knights and Catholics throughout Virginia to support the program by pledging to say one million rosaries during the fraternal year.  The ultimate result of this devotion will be to make the Holy Mother aware that 25,000 Knights of Columbus, their families and friends hold her in esteem.  The State Deputy pointed out that the program would reaffirm that one of the principal hallmarks of the Knights of Columbus “is Catholic men leading their families to God.”
