Knights in Action

Christmas Eve at Richmond VA Medical Center VA Medical Center check presentation

Christmas Eve was a brighter, happier one for some 350 patients and staff at the McGuire VA Medcal Center, thanks to greater Richmond area Knights of Columbus and their families. For more than 25 years, Knights have come to the hospital on Christmas Eve to serve a special dinner to everyone there, and this year's effort involved the volunteer work of 193 Knights and their family members. It is one of many ways in which Virginia Knights support our military veterans.

In addition to serving a dinner consisting of turkey, ham, roast beef, shrimp cocktail, potato salad, stuffing, cranberry sauce and dessert, the Knights sang Christmas carols and presented each veteran with a personalized Christmas card.

In the photo at right, PSD Kelly Mortensen presented an initial check for $600 donated by local councils for a shuffle board for the hospital recreation center, which will enable patients to practice for the Golden Age Games to be held in Indiana this year.

A feature article on the Knights was written for the September issue of Talk Loudoun. They truly captured the essence of our organization, to continually look for opportunities to help others and ask for nothing in return. See article here==>> Talk Loudon
