Fourth Degree Banquet183 New Sir Knights!

 

The largest spring exemplification in the history of the Fourth Degree in Virginia took place on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Fairfax. An unprecedented 183 men became Sir Knights at the afternoon ceremony, followed by a gala dinner at the same location. We'll have a photo slide show here shortly.

 

 


Bishop Loverde blesses UltrasoundBishop Loverde Blesses KC Ultrasound
in Loudoun County

Arlington Bishop and State Chaplain Paul Loverde blessed the new ultrasound machine donated recently by District 18 councils of the Knights of Columbus at a gathering at !st Choice in Landsdowne on Saturday, May 18. Priests from the participating parishes, and Grand Knights of the participating councils were hand to celebrate the occasion, as well as tour the 1st Choice facility near the Loudoun County Hospital.  Virginia Knights have now donated seven ultrasound machines to pregnancy centers throughout the state.

Community Activity Award winner - Council 8600St. Mary of Sorrows Council 8600

 

In 1996, St. Mary of Sorrows Council began a non-profit organization with the sole mission to own and maintain group homes in Virginia for persons with intellectual disabilities. The first home was purchased in 1998 and is currently the residence of five women who live in a family environment, and who receive full time care from a well established provider of 24/7 services to people with intellectual disabilities  READ MORE HERE.

Pre-Organizational Meeting June 15

A Pre-Organizational meeting for incoming District Deputies will be held on June 15, 2013 at St. Mary's Church in Richmond, the home of Msgr. Kelly Council 14129.  The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end no later than 2:00 p.m.  St. Mary's Church is located at 9505 Gayton Road, Richmond, and is most easily reached from Exit 180A off of I-64.  The full organizational meeting will be held at the same location on July 13, 2013, at which all of the state's grand knights are expected to be in attendence.


Knights of Columbus assistance to victims of Oklahoma tornado

The Knights of Columbus Oklahoma State Council has begun organizing relief efforts in and around Moore, Okla., to assist those displaced or otherwise negatively impacted by the storm. In addition, the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council sent an initial donation of $10,000 in support of the Oklahoma Knights’ response. READ MORE HERE

113th ANNUAL VIRGINIA STATE CONVENTION

The 113th annual convention of the Virginia Knights of Columbus was held in Roanoke, April 26-28.  State Secretary Anthony D. Fortunato was elected to succeed State Deputy Tommy Harger during the 2013-2014 Fraternal Year.  In the photo at right, State Deputy Harger presents our state chaplain, Bishop Paul Loverde, with a check for $15,000 to support vocations in the Diocese of Arlington (the Richmond Diocese will receive a similar check) at the Saturday evening banquet. Knight of the Year

 Knight of the Year

Among the awards presented at the 2013 state convention was the Virginia Knight of the Year, given to Bob Szerszynski. Bob is the state Culture of Life Chairman, and is a past grand knight of John Paul I Council 7165 in Dale City. During his tenure as Grand Knight, his Council received the State Deputy Award and the State Program Award for Pro-Life Activities. Last fraternal year, he coordinated the State-wide fundraising effort to replace 50 new flags and poles used at the Annual March for Life in Washington, D.C.    Read more here.

Virginia State Council donates $10K to support military vocations

State Deputy Tommy Harger joins Grand Knight Reyes Guerra and the other officers of Ft. Belvoir Council Council 11170 at their annual Clergy Appreciation Dinner at the Fort Belvoir Officer’s Club on April 12. Harger and the other state officers presented the Archdiocese of the Military Services with a check for $10,000 to support military vocations.
