Big class of 276 new Sir Knights become members of the Patriotic Degree
October 31, 2015 - One of the largest groups in the history of the Virginia District became Sir Knights of the Fourth Degree at an exemplificiation ceremony at the Westfields Marriott Hotel and Conference Center near Dulles Airport.
A total of 276 Knights took the degree, ten of whom were priests of the Arlington and Richmond Dioceses.
Awards were presented to the Sir Knight of the Year, Matthew Carroll of Bishop Flaherty Assembly 1678; and Assembly of the Year, Father Habets Assembly 1505. Membership awards went to Fr. Bader Assembly 2430 (highest membership gain, 30 new members) and All Saints Assembly 2185 (largest percentage gain, 14%). The Fr. Robert Neary Award was presented to the honoree of the exemplification, PSD Kelly Mortensen.
The Mass Saturday afternoon following the ceremony was said by the new District Friar, Fr. Brian Rafferty, of Chesapeake.
