State Organizational Meeting

in Richmond, July 8-10

Members from around the state gathered in Richmond the weekend of July 8 – 10 to kick off the new fraternal year.   After an evening of socializing and hospitality, Brother Knights got down to business during the annual Organizational Meeting on July 9.  State Deputy Mike Gasper, the state officers, and state staff members shared their vision of how we will “Encounter the Lord” this year.

Both State Chaplain Most Reverend Paul S. Loverde and Associate State Chaplain Reverend John C. Cregan encouraged us to “Build the Domestic Church.”  By being the faith leaders in our families, Knights can battle the secularism that threatens our Catholic Christian values.  Bishop Loverde and Father Cregan urged us to be models of our faith for our families, embrace the sacraments, and offer every Catholic man the opportunity to be a Knight of Columbus.

Supreme Director and PSD Tommy Harger also addressed the members present.  He spoke about the Knights of Columbus Safe Environment Program which protects our youth from sexual, emotional, and physical abuse.  All Youth Leaders and Grand Knights are asked to learn about this program and complete required training by the end of 2016.  Tommy also encouraged members and their families to visit the St. Thomas More exhibit on display at the St. John Paul II Shrine September 16, 2016 – March 31, 2017.

Following Mass at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, the state officers and district deputies were installed in front of their Brother Knights and members of the St. Edward’s parish.  The festivities continued with a Dinner/Dance attended by over 160 Knights, wives, and guests.  A special thank you goes out to the members of St. Edwards Council #6546 for supporting a weekend of memorable events.
