2013 Virginia Culture of Life Activity of the Year
Mother Teresa of Calcutta Council 12117
During January 2013, Mother Teresa Council collaborated with their parish to promote the Culture of Life with a series of events. The Knights took the lead to raise awareness within the parish, creating flyers, posters, pulpit and bulletin announcements.
The first event was the council quarterly blood drive on Sunday, January 13th. The goal was 35 donations, but the parish support was incredible and 51 pints were collected – 145% of the goal.
The next event, a spaghetti dinner for the parish, occurred on Saturday, January 19th. The council Ladies Auxiliary joined the cause by providing desserts. All the proceeds for the spaghetti dinner were given to the Virginia State Council Ultrasound Initiative.
The third event was a parish baby shower, hosted by the council on the weekend of January 19th and 20th. The Knights collected baby items and cash donations that were given to the Tidewater chapter of "Newborns in Need", a charity organized to provide care and necessities to local agencies and hospitals serving premature, ill or impoverished newborns.
